NEW DELHI: Though sealing action in the Capital will resume on Thursday after eight days, the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee is unlikely to give the go-ahead to target businesses and shops on 2,183 newly notified roads as it is yet to receive a report from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on affidavits filed by traders. Sealing action on non-notified roads that are 80 feet or more in width remained suspended for well over a week due to non-availability of security men who were engaged in Republic Day Parade arrangements. With the Delhi police now informing the Monitoring Committee that it is ready to deploy its personnel with the MCD squads, sealing action will resume on Thursday. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the last day for filing of affidavits, traders thronged various MCD offices and by 6 p.m. around 45,000 affidavits had been filed. The final figure could cross 50,000. After the Supreme Court orders, more than 3-lakh traders on 2,183 newly notified roads had got their shops registered with the MCD, of whom more than 1.85-lakh traders, barring those engaged in small trade and professional activities, were asked to file affidavits. But not even half of them have filed affidavits and could face sealing if the Supreme Court rules against them when the case comes up for hearing on February 2.
