The Government Medical Colleges in the State may have a lot of inadequacies. However, the large number of patients who flock to these hospitals every day indicate that there is hope yet, said B. Ekbal, who heads the commission which is looking into the prospects of setting up a Medical University here. Talking to reporters here recently, Dr. Ekbal said that despite the excellent facilities that many new self-financing medical colleges could boast of, these were yet to attract patients. "Students have no option but to learn clinical examination by looking at pictures because there are not enough patients. This is a very dangerous situation that we are talking about," he added. In the area of nursing education also, the erosion in quality was beginning to surface. Unlike before, nurses from Kerala are not much in demand in Europe because their clinical experience is quite poor.
