Street light faults not being attended: councillor

Members suggest privatisation of maintenance

ATTUR: Problems in the maintenance of streetlights and drinking water supply dominated the discussions in the council meeting of Attur Municipality held here on Wednesday.

Councillor of Ward 21 Mohan (AIADMK) complained that the streetlights in the town were not maintained properly.

At many parts, the lights were not burning, causing difficulties to the residents. Women and children were reluctant to access the streets during night hours. The municipal officials were not attending the faults quickly, he charged.

He suggested that the maintenance of streetlights could be privatised. This would help municipal officials to ensure proper functioning of all the lights.

The councillors also demanded the officials to clean the overhead water tanks frequently.

A bad smell emanated from the water being supplied from many tanks in the town, they pointed out.

Reacting to the demands, municipal officials said that the sanitary workers were cleaning the tanks and chlorinating the water adequately.

Auctioning

Susindran (DMK) blamed the municipal officials for delaying the conduct of auction for renting the shops in the municipal commercials complexes.

All the resolutions were passed without much discussion during the meeting. Chairperson Poongodi, Municipal Commissioner Elangovan and senior officials were present.
