IBM's initiatives

BANGALORE: IBM India on Thursday announced a roadmap for strengthening its educational initiatives and business expansion.

Shankar Annaswamy, Regional General Manager, IBM India and South Asia said the company had provided training on open standards based technologies to more than 80,000 students in 745 colleges across India last year.

IBM's Great Mind Challenge, designed to improve software development skills of students, involved 21,000 students and 3900 faculty in 24 states.

Its Young Explorer units were now deployed in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry, Chennai, Jaipur and Haryana. The programme takes IT education to schools and has covered 500 teachers and 30,000 children in 200 schools.

In Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, IBM has already launched the reinventing education programmes.
