Complete development works soon, officials told

Tuticorin: The Collector, R. Palaniyandi, reviewed infrastructure development schemes taken up by the administrations at 19 town panchayats in the district at a meeting here on Thursday.

He instructed officials and elected representatives to complete the construction of roads, car parking bays, streetlights, stormwater drains and drinking water facilities taken up under various projects at the respective town panchayats on a war footing.

Mr. Palaniyandi told the officials to take steps to maintain high levels of cleanliness at historic and heritage sites falling under Alwarthirunageri, Perungulam, Tiruchendur, Thenthiruperai, Kayathar, Ettayapuram, Srivaikundam and Kazhugamalai town panchayts to augment tourism potential.

He said that a fresh list carrying details of families in town panchayats categorised as living below-the-poverty-line would be published before February 28 to replace the one published in 2003.

Executive officers and chairpersons of various town panchayats attended the meeting.
