Namakkal: BSNL Basketball Club (Chennai), seeded directly into the quarterfinal, edged out Texcity Basketball Club (Karur) 56-50 to book a semifinal berth in the 16th State-level basketball tournament for men and women at the Namakkal South School grounds here on Thursday. BSNL found itself in a spot of bother in the first two quarters. However, Saravana Kumar (12) and Amarnath Gopi (16) came to the team's rescue with some timely baskets. The score at the end of the third quarter was 43-42 in Texcity's favour. BSNL pressed hard for a win in the final quarter. And in the dying minutes of the game, Amarnath did the star turn for BSNL. Praveen (16) and Raja (10) did all the hard work for Texcity. The results: BSNL (Chennai) 56 (Saravana Kumar 12, Amarnath Gopi 16) bt Texcity (Karur) 50 (Praveen 16, Raja 10).
