Kozhikode: The Kozhikode Second Additional District and Sessions Court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the fourth accused, K. Sasi, an activist of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), in the Moidu Haji murder case for failing to appear before the court on Thursday. The Judge, A.M. Babu, also served show-cause notices on two sureties of the accused, asking them why the bond amount should not be recovered from them. The 12th accused, K. Purushu, brother of the absconding accused, told the court that his brother had been missing for the last couple of days. The court was to start the trial on Thursday in the case in which Moidu Haji, a sympathiser of the Indian Union Muslim League, was killed during the political and communal clashes at Nadapuram in the district on January 14, 2001. However, it could not commence the trial. The court will take a final decision on conducting the trial on Friday. The case against the absconding accused would be split and further proceedings would be initiated against him under the Criminal Procedure Code. The murder of Moidu Haji was said to be a sequel to the killing of a CPI(M) worker, Santosh, the previous day. Cases have been framed against 12 CPI(M) activists, under various sections, including 302 (murder), of the Indian Penal Code. The seventh accused in the case, K. Chandran, has already been proclaimed as an absconding accused. V.P. Abdurahiman is the Special Public Prosecutor in the case.
