Concern over lack of awareness about schemes

Staff Reporter

`Elected representatives need training on schemes'

  • ZP Chairperson stresses need for training
  • `It will make them aware about schemes'

ANANTAPUR: Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha has stressed the need for training to elected representatives at village and mandal level on the development and welfare schemes being implemented by the Government as most of them were unaware of the schemes.

Lack of understanding on the schemes has been a major hindrance for them to keep a proper vigil on the implementation of the various schemes at ground level.

She stated that a majority of elected representatives at village and mandal level have been lacking awareness about the schemes due to their social background.

Speaking at the training programme for Mandal Parishad Development Officers and Extension Officers of Rural Development for training the sarpanches and upa-sarpanches here on Thursday, she said training would fill the gap of awareness among the elected representatives and help better implementation of the schemes, she felt.

Training was even more important for women representatives as one-third reservation for women in local bodies was sending women from different backgrounds to the local bodies and the women lacked awareness due to their social status.

Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad K. Sripathi Rao said 36 selected MPDOs and EO RDs would be trained further at Srikalahasti in Chittoor district from February 5 to 10.
