GROWTH PLANS: Director of Bureau of Economics and Statistics Saroja Ramarao speaking at the regional workshop on agricultural statistics at Anantapur on Thursday.
ANANTAPUR: Director of Bureau of Economics and Statistics Saroja Ramarao has asked the Chief Planning Officers (CPOs) to be accurate while recording statistics about industrial activity in the districts as it helps on proper planning for its growth. Speaking at the inaugural session of the three-day regional workshop on agricultural and industrial statistics here on Thursday, she said as the CPOs would compile information on only about one-fifth of the industries in their area every year, it should not be a problem in striving for accuracy. Perfection in planning by the Government would depend on the accuracy and classification of statistics, she noted. Several CPOs pointed out that the Industries department was not cooperating with them. On the agricultural statistics, she said they would help the Government in proper decision-making with regard to crop insurance, fixing minimum support price and others. Joint Collector Anita Rajendra said lack of basic statistics at ground level was creating problems for the administration on several aspects. Earlier, the Joint Collector and Director of BES released the statistical year book of Anantapur district for the year 2005-06. It was also released in the form of soft copy(compact disc).
