NEW DELHI: The Planning Commission has fixed the Annual Plan for Assam for 2007-08 at Rs. 3,800 crores at a meeting that Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia had with Chief Minister Tarun Kumar Gogoi. The Plan includes a special assistance of Rs. 400 crores for important projects in sectors such as irrigation, flood control, power and polytechnics of excellence. During the discussions, Dr. Ahluwalia hailed the State's economy as much better than before and poised to post a growth of 5.59 per cent against the targeted growth rate of 6.2 per cent for the Tenth Plan period. The State's efforts in maintaining financial discipline and initiating steps for development of economy were also appreciated.
