Bihar Govt. staff to get paternity leave

PATNA: The Bihar Government has decided in principle to give its employees 15 days' paternity leave and to enhance maternity leave from 90 to 135 days, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said on Thursday.

Mr. Modi said the fitment committee constituted to suggest the pay structure and service conditions of employees had recommended introduction of paternity leave and increasing the days of maternity leave. ``This will allow parents to give adequate love and care to the neo-natal child,'' Mr. Modi said here. The leave will be given for two children.

He said the fitment committee had submitted its recommendations in 1999 and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs accepted those related to maternity and paternity leave on August 20, 2000, but had not implemented them.- PTI
