Participates in polio surgery camp

BHUBANESWAR: As part of its endeavour to win people's confidence for its steel project, POSCO-India participated in a three-day district-level polio corrective surgery camp at Jagatsinghpur.

The surgeries, which started on Monday, would continue till January 31. "The expected number of children to undergo surgery is 100 and they will be under observation for a week post-surgery," the company said in a statement here.

Experienced team

POSCO-India, a subsidiary of world's third largest steel company POSCO, proposed to put up a 12 million tonne green field steel project at an estimated investment of Rs. 52,000 crores near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district.

A total of 175 children across eight blocks of Jagatsinghpur were identified for the corrective surgery, it said. An experienced team of surgeons and anaesthesiologists from Gujarat and Saurashtra would conduct minor and semi-major surgeries. Full recovery might vary from six to eight weeks, depending on the nature of the surgery, the company said.

All children would be provided with callipers and crutches as per individual needs.

POSCO-India CMD Soung-Sik Cho said: "The concerted effort is a model partnership between the Orissa Government, the district administration and the company."
