Staff Reporter

KADAPA: Veteran CPI leader K. Subbanna's death was a grave loss to CPI, trade union and agricultural workers' movements in Kadapa district, CPI State Secretariat member K. Ramakrishna said on Thursday.

Subbanna actively participated in agitations for irrigation projects in Rayalaseema, he said after garlanding his body placed at Ho Chi Minh Bhavan, the CPI office here. The veteran leader had no avenues to pursue higher education, but he thoroughly studied Marxism and visited Soviet Union at the party's behest, district CPI secretary G. Obulesu said. Unmindful of his poverty-stricken family, he strived for uplift of downtrodden and weaker sections, he said.

CPI(M) district secretary B. Narayana described Subbanna as a selfless and humble leader.

His body was taken in a procession, amidst chants of `Amar Rahe' by party men, drumbeats and revolutionary songs recited by Praja Natya Mandali members. He was cremated at Alamkhanpalle in Kadapa city. Large number of people visited the CPI office and paid homage to Subbanna.
