Devotees throng Ratnagiri

RITUAL: Milk being poured on the Bahubali statue at Yatnagiri in Dharmasthala in connection with the Mahamastakabhisheka, on Thursday.

DHARMASTHALA: The Mahamastakabhisheka celebrations at Ratnagiri entered the fifth day on Thursday.

The first "abhisheka" was performed with 504 "kalashas." It was witnessed by around 50,000 people.

The religious ceremony began early in the morning when the "agrodhaka kalash" was brought in a procession from "beedu."

The speciality of Thursday's programme was the "bimba" procession carrying the statue of Parshwanaatha to Ratnagiri.

The "mahamajjana" (grand bath) began by 10:45 a.m.

D. Veerandra Heggade and Hemavathi Heggade perfomed "prathama ratna jalabhisheka."

"Abhishekas" were performed on the 39-ft. monolithic statue of Bahubhali with tender coconut, sugarcane juice, milk, rice flour, turmeric, kashaya, sandal, kumkum and flowers'.

The "masthakabhisheka ceremony" atop the Rathnagiri hill was accompanied by singing of bhajans by artistes led by Sudheer Jain from Sagar in Madhya Pradesh.
