A rare get-together in the city
The Coast Guard Day 2007 turned out to be a get-together event of sorts with two former Eastern Region Commanders in attendance a rare event in the city.
Commodore (Retd.) R.S. Vasan, who presided over the expansion phase of the force, and Commodore U.N. Chitnavis, who led a handicapped but tireless team during the tsunami, were seen sharing many a lighter moment with the present Commander, Inspector General Rajendra Singh.
Commodore Vasan was the first commander to move into the new office where the Coast Guard reception was held, Commodore Chitnavis and Inspector General Singh followed. Commodore Chitnavis is now Deputy Director General, National Cadet Corps, and Commodore Vasan has turned a serious academic after retirement.
