NEW DELHI: The design and construction work on tunnels and stations between Udyog Bhavan and Green Park on the Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar corridor of Delhi Metro Phase II has been allotted to a Taiwan-based company in collaboration with an Indian infrastructure developer.

Continental Engineering Corporation (CEC) of Taiwan, in a joint venture with Soma Enterprises Limited, has been awarded the Rs.813.51-crore contract to carry out work on the 5,250-metre-long stretch between Udyog Bhavan and Green Park.

The work involves designing and construction of twin tunnels spanning 4,014 metres in length. The consortium will also construct four stations at Race Course, Jor Bagh, INA and All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. The construction period for the project is 40 months.

CEC has to its credit similar rail projects in Taiwan, including the longest running tunnel on Taiwan High Speed Rail.

CEC assistant vice-president P.C. Tseng said: "We have successfully completed similar rail projects in Taiwan and have to our credit several infrastructure projects. With our rich experience and expertise and Soma's local knowledge and experience, we are confident of creating an edifice of world class standard." Soma, which has a turnover of about Rs. 710 crores, has been at the forefront of adopting latest technology with resource and expertise to execute projects ranging from construction of dams to real estate.
