Manipur artistes to arrive today

Kozhikode: As part of a cultural exchange scheme of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, a band of Manipuri artistes will arrive in the city on Saturday.

The Nehru Yuva Kendra district coordinator M. Anil Kumar said the 16-member cultural group would comprise nine women. They would be accorded a reception at the Kozhikode railway station. They would also participate in a programme at the Yatri Nivas at West Hill in the evening.

Folk dance forms of Manipur and Kerala would be performed on the occasion. The group will also pay a visit to the zamorin of Calicut on Sunday. The team is also scheduled to visit the Kappad beach, Lokanarkavu and Thacholimanikothu.

The team will also meet Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan at the guesthouse in the evening. They would be put up at different houses at the Kadalundi grama panchayat from February 5 to 7 to enable them to learn the customs and traditions of the State.
