Dharmapuri: Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal has asked TWAD officials to expedite the Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) from Thumbalahalli dam to 50 villages in Palacode taluk before March 2007. Inspecting the works of the scheme at Karimangalam village here on Friday, he said the scheme would benefit 20,875 people in Thumbalahalli and 50 villages. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board had taken up the scheme at Rs. 1.92 crore. Water was already supplied from 34 overhead tanks to villages of Thumbalahalli, Kilthumbalahalli, Pulikal, Kalapanahalli, Kandikanahalli, Meganampatti, Periyampatti Colony, Kollupatti, Chinnalalakottai, Poovankottai, Nadukottai, Kitesampatti and Muthampatti. Three open wells were being sunk at the downstream of the dam. Mr. Bansal said five lakh litres of water would be drawn a day from open wells, to be supplied to 72 km in the villages of Kilthumbalahalli, Pulikal, Kalapanahalli Kandikanahalli, Meganampatti and Periyampatti Colony. The scheme would fulfil a long pending demand of the villagers of Thumbalahalli, Karimangalam and Periyampatti Colony for supply of protected drinking water. TNEB Executive Engineer Dhanush accompanied him.
