GUNTUR: Guntur Medical College started in 1946 will celebrate its diamond jubilee from February 9 to 11 on the college premises along with awards presentation function of Guntur Medical College Old Students Association and GMC Alumni of North America. The college set up in 1946, had produced more than 10,000 medical graduates and many of them were in high positions all over the world. This was established during the tenure of the then Health Minister Achanta Rukminamma in Composite Madras State and many of the students had made it big the political arena also. Some of the politicians of the day like Kolli Sarada, Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, Yelamanchili Shivaji, Lakshadweep MP K.K. Koya, Jayaprakash Narayan, and S. Aruna, also graduated from this institution. About 2,000 doctors are working in United States of America and 400 in United Kingdom and other countries. State Minister for Finance and Health Konijeti Rosaiah, Minister for Cooperation Kanna Lakshmi Narayana local MLAs and Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao would attend the diamond jubilee celebrations, according to a release from the college. . Cultural and sporting competitions would be organised for current students of the college and prizes given away during the three-day fete.
