Bangalore:
Senior Congress leader M. Mallikarjuna Kharge on Friday urged the Government to constitute a house committee to probe the lapses and failure in implementing the drought-relief measures in 128 taluks.
Participating in the debate on the issue under Rule 69 in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Kharge alleged that State Government had failed in utilising not only the funds provided by the Centre, but also the money available with it and earmarked for the purpose.
Mr. Kharge said that people in several villages of north Karnataka were suffering by consuming water contaminated with fluoride affecting their health, but the Government had done very little in mitigating their hardship. He demanding that the officers including the Deputy Commissioners of the districts concerned should be suspended.
