Milk price up by Rs. 2 a litre

ERODE: Private milk producers in Erode have raised milk price by Rs. 2 a litre from February 1. A litre of milk hitherto sold for Rs. 15 will now cost Rs. 17.

There are more than 50 private dairies in Erode, four or five being big ones. Only one or two dairies sell milk in sachets and remaining 40 and odd dairies sell loose milk. Because of the sudden rise, the sale of Aavin milk has slightly increased.

Aavin is selling around 30,000 litres of milk in Erode town alone at Rs. 14.50 a litre. Private vendors sell more than 20,000 litres daily. The milk producers who supply milk to Aavin have requested the Government to increase the milk procurement price by at least Re 1 a litre.
