Ajay, Santhosh make semifinals

Madurai: Top seed Ajay Selvaraj of Tuticorin and third seed Santhosh Venkataraman of Bangalore entered the semifinals, while second seed Bharath Srinivasan of Chennai and sixth seed E. Boaz of Madurai were knocked out in the other two quarterfinals by Guhan Varma and Parival of Chennai respectively in men's singles section of the Madurai Union Club's 21st annual open tennis tournament at the Club courts here on Friday.

Ajay Selvaraj, partnering E. Boaz of Madurai, entered the men's doubles semifinals too, defeating A. Venkatesan and C. Nitin of Chennai 6-2, 6-1.

Men:

Singles (quarterfinals): Ajay Selvaraj bt Mubeen (Chn) 6-3, 6-1; Guhan Varma (Chn) bt Bharath Srinivasan 6-3, 4-6, 6-3; Parivel (Chn) bt E. Boaz 6-4, 6-3; Santhosh Venkataraman (Bng) bt S. Vikram (Chn) 6-4, 6-0.

Doubles (quarter-finals): Santhosh Venkataraman/ Kumaravel bt S. Nitin/ Madhu P. Sarathy 6-1, 6-1; Samasundaram/ Prabhakar bt P. Manikandan/ Venkataraman 6-3, 6-2; Ajay Selvaraj and E. Boaz bt Venkatesan/ C. Nitin 6-2, 6-1.

GTN posts win

A half-century by Chellapandy helped GTN Arts College defeat PSNA College of Engineering by six runs in the RVS Trophy Dindigul District colleges cricket league at Dindigul on Friday.

The scores: GTN Arts College 139 for six in 23 overs (Chellapandy 50) bt PSNA College of Engg. 133 for nine in 23 overs (R. Karthick 49, Dayanithi 43).

Big win for Rockfort

Rockfort Football Club posted an emphatic 4-0 victory over Solar FC, Nilakottai, in the Dindigul District Football Association Nursery league at the NMM HSS ground, Dindigul, on Friday.

Sadam Hussain scored a brace, while Arun Kumar and Hari scored one goal each.
