KOCHI: Employees of the Central Bank of India and Lord Krishna Bank (LKB) have threatened to launch an indefinite strike. Alleged harassment of employees is one of the reasons for launching the agitation. The strike in Central Bank of India is being organised by the United Forum of Central Bank Unions (Kerala). The employees would go on an indefinite strike from February 22, said R. Ananthakrishnan, a leader of the officers' association of the bank. Eight unions of the bank representing all the employees would join the strike, he said. The employees struck work on January 22. Consequently, the management issued showcause notices to 7,000 employees, he said. Mr. Ananthakrishnan alleged that the management was following a vindictive attitude towards the staff. As a means of punishment, the office-bearers of the staff unions were being transferred, he said. The promotion policy and the transfer policy for officers were amended without proper discussions with the trade unions, he said. Lord Krishna Bank Employees Union (LKBEU) leader S.S. Pillai said the employees would strike work on February 19 and 20. An indefinite strike would be launched afterwards, he said. In order to oppose the proposed merger of LKB with Centurion Bank, the employees had struck work for 48 days.
