Bidar: A land dispute led to the murder of Vijay Kumar Nagamarapalli, son of MLA and former Minister Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, here on Friday. Ownership of half-an-acre of land in front of the Barid Shahi Garden on the Bidar-Udgir Road was disputed. Located on prime land, it was valued at nearly Rs. 2 crore. Land rates in this areahave gone up following reports of the State Government's plans to start civil aviation from the Bidar IAF Base. Revenue Department sources said the land earlier belonged to a former Indian Air Force officer late K.T. Abraham. He had sold it to Shivankar, who sold it to 49 persons. However, they could not take possession of the land as Venkat Rama Rao, allegedly forcibly took possession of the land and set up a dhaba there. Venkat also allegedly has a murder case against him. He hails from Nelwad village in Bhalki taluk. Around 15 years ago, the 49 persons who had purchased land from Mr. Shivankar, filed a case seeking the eviction of Venkat from the land. The case was decided by the District Fast Track Court in favour of the 49 people, according to court records. Revenue Department officials said the litigants approached Venkat directly. They should have used the official channel for evicting Venkat, senior officials said.
