STPI is a boon to techies, says Union Minister

Government sanctions Rs. 1 crore, accommodation and three acres of land


  • First such facility coming up in the State, the Minister says
  • Several IT companies, including InfoTech, have established their base at the incubation centre

    Kakinada: The Software Technology Park of India (STPI) will prove to be a boon to engineering graduates passing out of the nearly two-dozen colleges in both East and West Godavari districts, Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallamraju has said.

    Speaking to newsmen here on Friday, Mr. Pallamraju said it was the first such facility coming up in the State during the Congress regime.

    With the maximum number of engineering and MCA colleges, the Godavari districts had great potential to develop into an IT hub, he felt.

    Claiming that the response to the STPI was spontaneous, he said several IT companies, including InfoTech, established their base at the incubation centre.

    He said the incubation centre, with state-of-the-art technology, was the first of its kind facility located in an extent of 14,000 sft on the Collectorate premises.

    Mr. Pallamraju said the State Government, on its part, sanctioned Rs. 1 crore, a built-in accommodation of 20,000 sft and three acres of land along the beach road for the STPI.

    Call to students

    The Union Minister advised students to focus on soft skills to make better use of employment opportunities.

    Addressing students of Aditya Engineering College at Surampalem near here on Friday, he said communication skills were very important especially in the IT sector. Claiming that students of the Godavari district were having bright future with lot of employment avenues in the IT sector. Explaining the growth potential, he said Kakinada was going to be the centre for IT industry and majority of IT exports would be routed through the port in the near future. Though the products of China, Vietnam and Russia cost less, India would be advantageous over them in view of the quality it maintains.

    The Minister said the Godavari districts were rich in manpower and the availability of requisite technical infrastructure gives the city the much-needed advantage for becoming the IT hub.
