GUNTUR: Maoists are down and out, but we should not take it for granted as they could be there in the plains also, hence improving collection of our intelligence information should be the focus, says Director General of Police M.A. Basith. Reviewing the law and order situation in Guntur district and interacting with police officers at the Umesh Chandra Hall in District Police Office in the city on Friday, he said that plains cannot be taken for granted as safe zones.
New building opened
After arriving from Ongole, Mr. Basith inaugurated a new building at Police Barracks and threw open the renovated police kalyana mantapam. Addressing the policemen, he underlined the need for a people-friendly policing. Land disputes and activities of the gangsters were on the rise due to zooming real-estate prices and police had to pay special attention on prevention and resolving them. Protecting people in all aspects, which was the basic policing, should be our forte, he opined.
Call to staff
"Do not leave alone those suspicious deaths happening frequently," he said and wanted the police personnel to react quickly to all the complaints lodged with them. The Inspector General of Police Satyanarayan, Superintendent of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu in addition to District Collector G. Jayalakshmi were present to welcome Mr. Basith to the district for the first time. The DGP later left for Mangalagiri and attended inaugural of an administrative block of the AP Special Police Battalion and from there he went to Vijayawada.
