KOTTAYAM: The State Government will soon launch the Kerala Land Information Project, coordinating the Revenue and Survey departments. Inaugurating the computerisation of land records at taluk and village offices in the State here on Friday Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said, under the project, all records and information connected with land dealings would be made available to the people through digitisation and internet. Computerisation process would be completed in three years and survey, resurvey and transfer of registry (pokkuvaravu) would be completed during this period, he said. This will go a long way in bringing transparency in land dealings and bringing down corruption, he said. Steps were also on to make it mandatory for all to register the new sketch of the land as approved by the Survey department. The functioning of the village and taluk offices would be streamlined. The Government hopes to distribute surplus land to over 20,000 families in the next four months. Already 3,173 acres of land has been cleared for distribution in various districts, Mr. Rajendran said. Innumerable legal complexities were hampering the process, the Minister said. The Chief Minister would inaugurate a `pattaya mela' in Thiruvananthapuram on February 6. Work is on to provide title deeds to more than 25,000 people before March 15, he said. "Steps have also been taken to provide title deeds in all cases where joint verification is over," Mr. Rajendran said. V.N. Vasavan, MLA, presided. Principal Revenue Secretary and Land Revenue Commissioner Niveditha P. Haran, MPs, MLAs, District Collector Raju Narayana Swamy and others spoke on the occasion.
