Staff Correspondent

Villagers demand CoD inquiry into death of Ramdas Bumani of Balagamatti

BELGAUM: A large number of people led by B.B. Shahapurkar staged a protest against the alleged indifference of Belgaum Rural Police station and burnt the effigy of the Inspector concerned at Rani Chennamma Circle for not initiating proper action against accused persons responsible for the death of a youth, here on Wednesday.

The villagers, who included relatives of the deceased Ramdas Bumani of Balagamatti, demanded a CoD inquiry into the death of the youth.

Mr. Shahpurkar submitted a memorandum to the Government through the two Ministers from the district, Minister for Horticulture Shahsikant A. Naik and Minister for Social Welfare Balachandra Jarkiholi.

However, elders pacified the boys and resolved the matter on the spot.

Yet, a group led by locally influential individuals attacked Ramdas and his friends. Ramdas was injured and was taken to civil hospital next day morning but he died on the way.

Subsequently, relatives and villagers of Balagamatti lodged a complaint with the rural police. However, the police was yet to arrest the main accused who led the attack. Later, Mr. Shahpurkar also submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police.
