NEW DELHI: There comes a time in life when we have lots to express but are short of words. This rings true of Indore-based English teacher Kailash Chandra Sharma whose first solo exhibition is on view at good old Dhoomimal Gallery here in Connaught Place. Titled "Beyond the Obvious", Kailash says his paintings are replicas of life. "They are my wordless prayers, silent yet effective. Silence tells a lot without speaking anything. Such prayers are obviously addressed to Him who is beyond the obvious,'' he says. Even though Kailash has just made a mark in the vast and complex field of art, he paints freely without "inhibitions, tensions and pressures''. "Painting has been a hobby for me since childhood," says Kailash, who also runs a language institute in Madhya Pradesh. Kailash's metamorphosis from a teacher and owner of a highly creative faculty is not without logic or reason. He says when a beautiful idea or feeling occupies his mind he tends to share it with his near and dear ones. "The inception is followed by conception, which in turn is followed by a search for an appropriate medium. In most cases it is one of the human languages. When this medium fails despite the best efforts, painting comes to my rescue." Describing himself as a self-taught painter, Kailash says: "My paintings should probably be marked for the beauty that springs from self-discipline. My paintings just flow from me. They grow on me."The exhibition is on view till this Saturday.
