Staff Reporter

No nominations filed for five panchayats even after extension of date

BERHAMPUR: Police have been staging flag march in Chakapada block of the Kandhamal district to create fear among the miscreants who are trying to disrupt the panchayat election process.

Meanwhile, no one filed nomination at five panchayats of Chakapada block for panchayat polls within the stipulated time period. The State Election Commission had to extend the nomination date till January 29 and some candidates came out to file nomination papers from the area.

But some miscreants have started threatening these candidates.

Speaking to The Hindu , Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Satish Kumar Gajbhiye said following complaints from two zilla parishad candidates and another candidate from Kakhrajhol village the police stepped up vigil.
