CUTTACK: The State Government on Friday informed the High Court that necessary steps were being taken at the Government level to remove the road blockade on National Highway-200 near Kalinga Nagar as per the court order. The High Court last month had directed the Government to remove the road blockade immediately that had been continuing for over one year now. The Government was also asked to provide police protection to the vehicles passing through the road and take stringent action against the activists who were staging the road blockade. State Home Secretary T K Mishra in an affidavit told the High Court that in pursuance to its order, necessary instructions were passed to the Jajpur District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police. The tribal leaders have been requested by the Chief Minister to vacate the road blockade in view of the court directive, the affidavit said adding that the outcome of the meeting with the aggrieved leaders was "satisfactory". The Home . Tribals of Kalinga Nagar are staging the blockade for last one year ever since the police firing in the area on January 2, 2006.
