BHUBANESWAR: Protesting against `privatisation policy' of both the State Government and Centre, hundreds of activists of All India Students' Federation (AISF) took out a rally here on Friday. The rally was organised on occasion of 37th State council meet that got under way here. Rajya Sabha member Ajij Pasa said, "both the State and Centre are pursuing policies which help corporate houses while 70 per cent of the population who live below poverty line remain neglected." He called upon the students to launch campaign against the biased policies of the Governments and work towards uplifting of poorer section of society. Speakers including Communist Party of India legislator N Narayan Reddy and former vice-chancellor of Berhampur University A P Padhi said instead of utilising vast mineral resources on its own, the State Government was handing over the wealth to multinational companies such as Tata and Vedanta. AISF state secretary Jyoti Ranjan Mohapatra said his organisation would intensify its agitation against growing commercialisation of education and increase in entry of criminals in campuses.
Photo exhibition
A photograph exhibition on human rights violation in Kalinga Nagar area was organised to mark the occasion. The meeting, which would continue till February 4, will discuss different students' issues and establishment of private university by Vedanta Group in Puri district.
