Kozhikode : The trial in the Moidu Haji murder case began at the Kozhikode Second Additional District and Sessions Court here on Friday. P. Amina, wife of Moidu Haji, and his daughter P. Ayesha deposed before the Judge A.M. Babu. The examination of Ayesha will continue on Saturday. Moidu Haji, a sympathiser of the Indian Union Muslim League, was killed during the political and communal riots at Nadapuram on January 14, 2001. A mob reportedly activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) attacked the house of Moidu Haji and killed him. The murder was said to be a sequel to the killing of a CPI(M) worker Santosh on the previous day. Charge-sheet was issued against 12 CPI(M) activists in the case investigated by the Nadapuram police. The trial in the case was to begin on Thursday. However, the fourth accused K. Sasi, who was on bail, failed to appear before the court. A non-bailable arrest warrant was also issued against him and show cause notices were served on the two sureties of the accused asking them why the bond amount should not be recovered from them. Meanwhile, the Nadapuram police submitted a report before the court that the absconding accused was at large.
