Staff Correspondent
Bidar: An inquiry will be conducted into the conduct of police officials who were present during the murder of Vijay Kumar Nagamarapalli. The inquiry will try to look into allegations of police inaction during the incident. Action will be initiated against the police if they are found guilty, according to Inspector-General of Police Roopak Kumar Datta. Mr. Datta told presspersons here on Friday that he had preliminary reports that the police team that accompanied the victim was not armed. "We will look into the matter in detail," he said. He said the accused Venkat Rama Rao had criminal antecedents. The accused had a murder case pending against him. His name was included in the rowdy sheet, Mr. Datta added.
Suspended
Eight police personnel were suspended for negligence and dereliction of duty in Bidar in connecting with the murder Mr. Nagamarapalli. Mr. Datta ordered the suspensions of circle inspector S. Kalligudda, sub-inspectors Mallamma Choube and Subhash Gajre, and five others, the police sources said. The immediate action followed directions from the highest level in the Government, the sources said. The matter was raised in the Legislative Assembly by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge.
