Killed by aMaoists

VISAKHAPATNAM: A surrendered member of the CPI (Maoist), Gemili Venkata Rao, was allegedly killed by naxalites on Thursday night. Venkata Rao, aged 25, a native of Kumkumpudi village in G.K. Veedhi mandal, had surrendered in 2002 and had been running a jeep since then. The naxalites suspected him to be a police informer. Venkata Rao's body was found near the village. Non-payment of salary questioned

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court on Friday asked Principal Secretary (Finance) to explain how salaries could be stopped for Government employees in the name of non-submission of nativity certificate in time.

The Bench wanted to know how the orders of non-payment of salary be made applicable to the staff of the high court. The case is listed for next week.— Legal Correspondent

ANGRAU signs pact

HYDERABAD: ANGRAU signed a MoU with Tuskagee University on `capacity building for risk analysis to promote trade' under US-India Agricultural Knowledge Initiative. According to a press release from ANGRAU, the MoU will help in training scientists in the area of risk analysis. — Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: A post-graduate student of Department of Dermatology of Andhra Medical College Y. Hari Kishan Kumar was awarded the Prof. K. Siddappa gold medal during the 35th National conference of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists held in Chennai early this week. - Special Correspondent

Chiranjeevi fans suffer burns

KHAMMAM: Four of fans of film star Chiranjeevi suffered burns while burning the effigy of actor Mohan Babu. The police said that S.K Pasha, S. Madar, Banka Saideswar and Srinivas were admitted to a hospital with 20 per cent burns. They were said to be out of danger.

They were protesting against Mohan Babu's recent remarks against Chiranjeevi. - Staff Reporter
