NCP for stir against LDF Government

Staff Reporter

Murali says the Government will be ousted by people soon

ALAPPUZHA: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State president K. Muraleedharan said here on Friday that the party would organise a mass agitation against the LDF Government as there was no use in supporting a regime which would be ousted by the people shortly.

Inaugurating a convention of the reconstituted NCP district unit, Mr. Muraleedharan said the party had realised that there was no use in cooperating with the Government. How could the party support a Chief Minister and his Government which had failed on all fronts, he asked.

"There might be some people who tend to think how the LDF would react if we organised strong protests against the Government. But we are not concerned about it," Mr. Muraleedharan said.

He said there was an understanding between some UDF leaders and Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy who had been clamouring for CBI probe into the SNC Lavlin issue was silent on the Chief Minister's letter to the President recommending former Kerala High Court Chief Justice V.K. Bali to the post of Supreme Court judge. The Chief Minister could convey his opinion, but only when it was sought, he said.

Congress flayed

The Congress leaders did not have the audacity to organise protests against the LDF Government as evidences of their misdeeds were with the Government, he said.

The administration in the State had totally failed and the Chief Minister himself had pointed out it at a meeting of District Collectors recently. Kozhikode did not have a District Collector since the last Assembly byelection there, the NCP leader added.

NCP district president M.J. Job presided over the meeting. Those who spoke included NCP leaders Kodoth Govindan Nair, Mammen Iype and N. Venugopal.
