Staff Reporter

IGL setting up more CNG stations

NEW DELHI: Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the sole supplier of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in Delhi, has identified 49 new sites for CNG stations and would be targeting supply of PNG to 10,000 new customers during the current financial year.

The company said that with CNG working out 38 per cent cheaper than even diesel, nearly 2,500 private cars are being converted into CNG mode in the Capital every month and with oil prices on the upswing, the demand for the green fuel is expected to rise substantially in Delhi.

As a part of its expansion plans, IGL recently also began construction work in Greater Noida. Permissions for setting up CNG stations and laying of pipeline network in Greater Noida have already been received. Possession has been taken at five sites for setting up CNG stations. Action has also been initiated to expand to neighbouring towns of Ghaziabad, Sonepat and Panipat.

IGL said the company's net profit for the quarter ended December 2006 rose to Rs. 35.48 crores against Rs. 29.33 crores during the corresponding period last year.

The company said it had laid out a distribution infrastructure in the Capital consisting of 1,000 km of pipeline and also set up 144 CNG stations and connected over 60,000 domestic households, 261 small commercial customers and 46 large commercial customers to its PNG network.
