Staff Reporter

Panel to identify areas for inclusion and exclusion

JAMMU : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said eight new districts would be demarcated in six months.

Mr. Azad told the Legislative Council that a committee headed by former State Chief Secretary S.S. Bloeria would identify the areas for inclusion and exclusion. It would submit its report in six months. There is no proposal to create more districts.

Nodal officers have been appointed for the new districts and steps are on to provide manpower and infrastructure for the administrative units. The Cabinet on July 6, 2006, decided to create eight districts, three sub-divisions and 14 tehsil, besides setting up a Delimitation panel to form new Assembly constituencies, and a Finance panel. New districts are Kishtwar, Samba, Reasi, Ramban, Bandipore, Kulgam, Ganderbal and Shopian.
