Election observers appointed

Chennai : The State Election Commission has appointed the following IAS officers as election observers for the forthcoming local body polls in Chennai:

Zone 1 — Chandra Prakash Singh, zone 2 — T. Pichandi, zone 3 — K. Shanmugam, zone 4 — S.K. Prabhakar, zone 5 — Dayanand Kataria, zone 6 — M.R. Mohan, zone 7 — G. Santhanam, zone 8 — J. Radhakrishnan, zone 9 — M. Veera Shanmugha Moni and zone 10 — S. Murugaia.

The State Election Commissioner will meet the observers on February 5 to discuss the arrangements to be made for the polls.

Thirty candidates filed their nominations on Friday. Eight Congress candidates, one DMDK candidate and 21 Independents have entered the fray.

On Thursday, 31 candidates filed their nominations.
