CHENNAI : Metropolitan Transport Corporation's route number 21G has achieved a new record in ticket sales in the recent times. The MTC authorities said the route number 21G is the highest revenue-earner among its routes. Last Sunday, one of the 21G services recorded a collection of Rs 8,000 during evening shift (between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.), they said. Normally, in any ordinary service the collection would range from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000. In some of the limited stop services the collection would touch about Rs 5,000, the officials said. Similarly, the earlier record collection by the same route had not crossed beyond Rs 5,000, they said.
Pat for crew
The new record was created because of the joint efforts of both the driver and the conductor of the bus, the officials said. In order to recognise their achievement, the officials organised a function at Tambaram depot and presented the MTC crew with a memento. A total of 28 buses are being operated on the route 21G. A majority of services were operated by the Tambaram depot followed by the Central Depot located on Pallavan Salai. The Alandur depot operated a few services and these services were operated as cut services, the authorities said. A senior officer said the route through which the bus was passing was one of the reasons for its highest revenue collection. The bus operated between Tambaram and High Court passes through Tambaram Sanatorium, Chromepet, Pallavaram, Trisulam, Guindy, Anna University, Kotturpuram, R.A.Puram, Mandaveli, Mylapore, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai and joins the Kamarajar Salai before reaching the High Court. Another officer said the other routes, which recorded higher collection in the MTC's stable, included all 70 series, the newly introduced services between T.Nagar and Sri Perumbudur, Broadway and Kelambakkam and Vadapalani and Sunguvarchatram.
