Thiruvananthapuram: Video Game, a Malayalam documentary film made by Vipin Vijai, has bagged the Grand Jury Tiger award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival 2007 in Holland. This is the first Indian film to win the award. The jury adjudged Video Game as a unique Indian road movie. It observed that the film shows a relentless, post-modern intelligence, as it processes everything within its view, within its memory and wide range of cultural references. In Video Game, the filmmaker undergoes a journey to locations used on a previous 35 mm film. He takes his video camera along and makes a personal on- the- road contemplation about life and its passing nature. An acknowledged documentary filmmaker, Vijai has directed films like Razor's Edge, Hava Mahal and Flowering Tree. He has won the international jury prize as well as the Kodak award, IDPA award, Kerala State film award and the John Abraham national award. His films have been exhibited in film festivals at Montreal, Karlovyvary, Tehran, Karachi, Chicago and the Indian panorama. Two of his works have been acquired for permanent archives at the U.S. Library of Congress.
