Sreesanth brings smiles to children at special school

Special Correspondent

NEW TURF: Obliging his fans at a special school in the capital.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was a new turf and a different ballgame altogether for rising cricket star Sreesanth on Friday. The occasion was an interaction with students of the Marion Play Home, a special school for mentally challenged children, run by the Martha Mariam Social Service Society at Mannanthala near here.

Sreesanth was received with beaming faces by the children at the play home when he arrived for the event in the evening.

He went round the classes, shook hands with the children, interacted with them and signed autographs as the youngsters clustered around him. He was presented with a bouquet.

But the highpoint of the evening was Sreesanth's participation in a cricket match with the children. The cricket hero donned the role of an all rounder, batting and bowling to the cheers of his admirers.

The event was organised as a special charity campaign by Smiles, a charitable foundation of the Muthoot Pappachan Group. General manager of the foundation Ghulam Samdani and voluntary worker Mrs. Kun were present. Play Home principal Thankamani said the campaign was organised to collect funds for the construction of a sheltered workshop that would provide job opportunities for children trained in various vocations. The Marion Play Home was established in 1990 under a project to develop the special skills.
