Thiruvananthapuram: A huge collection of handicrafts and cottage industries products made by artisans from all over the country is on display at a 17-day exhibition-cum-sale organised by the SMSM Institute at the VJT hall here from Thursday. Statues made in teak, mahogany and sandalwood, brass lamps of various sizes and shapes, flower vases, reed mats, eco-friendly bags made of natural fibre, leather products manufactured at Santhiniketan, pearl necklaces, wooden massagers and exquisitely-carved partition screens have proved to be crowd pullers at the exhibition. The majority of the products at the exhibition are produced at the workshop set up by the Handicrafts Development Corporation of Kerala at Attakulangara here. Mayor C. Jayan Babu inaugurated the show at a function organised on Thursday. Chairman of the Handicrafts Development Corporation Antony Raju and managing director S. Somanathan Pillai were present on the occasion.
