WRITERS' CONCLAVE: Marathi novelist Lakshman Gaekwad inaugurating the Second DC International Book Fair and Cultural Fest at Marine Drive grounds in the city on Friday.
KOCHI: Indian literature is getting a real flavour of the lower strata of society with more Dalit writers coming forward to write about their lives, said Marathi novelist Lakshman Gaekwad. He was speaking after the inauguration of the 2nd DC International Book Fair and Cultural Fest at Marine Drive Grounds. Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams presided over the inaugural session. Sebastian Paul, MP, delivered the keynote address. Writer Sethu and M.M. Monayi, MLA, spoke. The inaugural session was followed by an interactive forum featuring writers Sethu and C.V. Balakrishnan along with Suresh P. Thomas, Roshni Swapna, Jose K. Manuel, Sumodh and P. Raghunath, who are authors of works that have been short-listed for the O.V. Vijayan memorial novel competition. Sethu released the first copy of the novel 2048 km by Thomas. Other works will be released in coming months. Around 40 publishers are participating in the book fair. The fair will feature cultural programmes, with each day dedicated to a theme. On Saturday, which has been dedicated to theatre, Murali, actor and chairman of Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi, will lead the interactive session along with Cuckoo Parameswaran. The festival will end on February 12.
