THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Model cattle farms are essential for increasing dairy production in the State, Minister for Agriculture Mullakkara Ratnakaran has said. He was speaking after inaugurating the district dairy festival here at Kanyakulangara on Friday. The Minister reminded dairy farmers that they could make achievements only through a concerted effort. There should be a collective effort by dairy farmers at the rural level to meet the challenges. Rearing cattle is a traditional vocation of the country. It has played a major role in creating a culture of patience and compassion, he said. Mr. Ratnakaran said daily production of milk in the State should be raised to 30 lakh litres. Many industries including chocolate factories can be started if there is a rise in production of milk, he said. The Minister was of the view that the natives of the State were on the verge of losing their language and attire.
