Two killed, five injured in accident

Thiruvananthapuram: Two persons were killed and five others injured in a road accident involving a private car and a pick-up autorickshaw on NH-47 at Palamoodu junction, Mamom, near Attingal on Friday.

The deceased were identified as C.P. Ravindran, 60, a resident of Kuzhivalakathu veedu, Kaithamukku in the capital; and his wife, Vijayakumari, 54. The injured were Dr. Ravindran's son Krishnakumar, car driver Ajith, auto driver Mahesh, Jayan and Babu who were in the auto. According to the police, the incident took place around 6.45 a.m when Dr. Ravindran was returning from Kozhikode along with family in the car. They were returning after attending the funeral of Vijayakumari's mother. The pick-up autorickshaw was coming in the opposite direction.

Dr. Ravindran, who was earlier a physician with the Plantation Corporation was working with a private hospital at Kattakada. He was killed on the spot. Vijayakumari, who was seriously injured, succumbed to injuries at the Medical College Hospital. The police have registered a case.
