Authorities reject their driving licences meant for heavy motor vehicles

MADURAI: Many candidates from Tamil Nadu who attended the recruitment process for posts of Junior Assistants (fire) with the Airports Authority of India at Madurai airport on Friday were disappointed when the authorities rejected their driving licences meant for heavy motor vehicles, terming them "invalid."

Three different references for heavy motor vehicles in the licenses — Trans-Veh, TVEH and TPT Veh — had been rejected by the authorities.

The variations were seen in licences issued during different periods and from different offices in the State. Only the licences bearing the letters, `HTV,' were accepted.

The two-day recruitment process started off with certificate verification and the applicants were sent out at the first stage itself.

"Ineligible" was all that the officials had written on the call letter without specifying the nature of disqualification.

The basic qualification for the post is Plus-Two pass and a heavy driving licence with validity as on June 30, 2006.

"Many of us were sent away. The officials were not in a mood to listen to our clarifications," said one of the job aspirants.

The recruitment is taking place after an interval of three years.

"I went up to the level of written test using the same licence during the previous recruitment process held in Tiruchi," he added.

Over 600 candidates from Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been called for the recruitment process to fill up 56 posts in the southern region covering four States.

Similar recruitment is going on in Calicut, Mangalore and Tirupati.

Stating that most of the candidates were from Kerala, the job aspirants from Tamil Nadu feel that rejecting their applications would deny them an opportunity to get jobs in the public sector.

The candidates wondered why the recruiting officials were not willing to clarify the issue with the Regional Transport Office.

"The Madurai RTO (North) is willing to give details if the AAI officials seek clarification. We even showed them a circular given by the RTO to support our stand. But the rejection of candidates continued even in the evening," father of one of the candidates said.

The candidates, who have come from far off places, said that they would stay back in Madurai and make one more attempt on Saturday.
