Boom in tourism good for crockery manufacturers

KOCHI: Premium crockery manufacturers are finding a good opportunity in the Kerala market thanks to the boom in tourism. Hospitality industry is looking out for better products and products with fine finish are in high demand, according to experts in ceramics products.

Analysing the present trends, Viswanath Tonse, Senior Marketing Manager of Oasis Ceramics Private Limited, a company manufacturing premium crockery, says that trendy crockery has become a status symbol for many hotels. The company has launched brand new series of products made of `Bone China'. As part of the launch of the new series in Kerala, the company is organising an exhibition at the Le Meridien Convention Centre in Kochi on February 2 and 3.

"Today it is not only important for the hotel industry to prepare mouthwatering foodstuff, but also to serve the dishes in stylish crockery," Mr. Tonse said. The crockery should suit the ambience of the hotel. Several hotels import the designed and decorated crockery to match accessories such as cutlery, glassware and tablemats. The company is engaged in making quality products of international standard and has been supplying to well known companies and hotels, according to him.

The company, which has a production unit at Jalgaon in Maharashtra, will open a new factory at Ankleshwar in Gujarat. The company has acquired 25 per cent stake in the London-based Crown Trent UK Limited, which markets its products all over the world, he said. Hand painted crockery is in fashion and the company provides a range of such products to the clients to cater to their specific needs, according to Z.Varghese, a marketing executive, associated with the company.
