KOTTAYAM: The political drama which witnessed unprecedented activities, like `hijacking' of the husband of a rebel member of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) dispensation, finally came to an end with the LDF losing control over the Erattupetta grama panchayat. The LDF lost the no-confidence motion on Saturday which saw nine members voting in favour of the motion. Seven members voted against the motion in the 16-member panchayat. The vice-president resigned following the defeat of the president in the no-confidence vote. Earlier, the LDF had the support of nine members in the sixteen-member grama panchayat. The high drama began more than a week ago when two LDF members, P.H. Naushad (PDP) and Suhra Abdul Khader (NCP), withdrew support to the LDF. At one stage, Suhra Abdul Khader's husband alleged that he was `hijacked' by the LDF in an attempt to coerce them to extend support. This had forced the district administration to deploy the police and declare orders of prohibition on Saturday. Central Zone DIG Revatha Chadrasekhar was camping in the area from Friday evening. Lalam Block Development Officer (BDO) Viswanatha Chettiar was the presiding officer for the voting as Erattupetta BDO Chandrasekharan was hospitalised on Friday.
