Namakkal: Favourite Southern Railway (Chennai) strengthened its title chances in the men's section defeating a strong Customs outfit from Chennai 63-45 in a crucial semifinal league clash in the 16th State-level basketball tournament at the Government HSS (South) courts here on Saturday.

The results: Semifinal league: Men: Southern Rly. (Chennai) 63 (Bernard Philips 13, Srinivasa Rajan 12) bt Customs (Chennai) 45 (Devanathan 22, Thiagarajan 11).

Women: Vayudooth BBC (Chennai) 57 (Selva Jansi 15, Laxmi Devi 25) bt Nirmala BBC 46 (Divya 18, Gokilavani 17); SRM Rising Star (Chennai) 42 bt Salem SAI 21.
